Ingredients

Sugar 1 1/2 cups
Unsalted Butter (softened) 1 cup
Sour Cream 1 cup
Large Egg (beaten) 1
Baking Soda 1 tsp
Vanilla Extract 1 tsp
Nutmeg 1 tsp
All Purpose Flour 3 1/2 cups (~525g) + extra

Frosting

Ingredient Quantity
Salted Butter (softened) 1/3 cup
Powdered Sugar 4 1/2 cups
Whole Milk 1/4 cup
Vanilla Extract 1/2 tsp
Food Coloring to taste

Steps

  1. Cream sugar and softened butter.
  2. Add baking soda, vanilla and nutmeg.
  3. Add beaten egg.
  4. Alternate adding flour and folding in the sour cream.
  5. Refrigerate for 1 hour (make the frosting).
  6. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  7. Roll a piece the cookie dough to roughly 1/8" thickness. Use flour as needed to keep the dough from sticking.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut the dough and place the cut cookie on the baking pan.
  9. Consolidate the dough scraps back into a ball, adding more dough as needed and roll out the dough as before. Repeat as needed.
  10. Bake at 350ºF for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are starting to brown and the center is set.
