Chapter 1 - Catropolis

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away there lived twin cats named Marley and Carly. They were the best of friends and lived together in the countryside far away from the only cat city around, Catropolis. They planned to go to Catropolis one day to make it big as investigative journalists.

On a windy Sunday, they decided to move Catropolis and they sold their house to buy bus tickets. Later that day, they were in Catropolis looking for an apartment. They were walking all around the streets of downtown Catropolis looking for a place to rent when they walked by an alley. They saw four dogs being mean to a small baby kitten, they were trying to steal the kitten’s lunch. Marley just knew they had to do something about it so she looked at Carly and Carly knew what Marley was thinking. HEY! You dogs! You better be nice to that kitten! Marley said with a very mean sounding growl and Carly matched with an even more dangerous sounding hiss. The dogs immediately ran away out of fear and the kitten was saved. After thanking Marley and Carly for helping, Marley and Carly continued to look for a place to live in the new viabrant city, Catropolis.

After a few days of searching, they found a small apartment to rent that was nice and cozy and in the downtown area of Catropolis. It was in an old brick building with a rooftop where they could look over the city. Marley and Carly came to Catropolis to become investigative journalists and they never backed down from any challenge they faced. Now that they had a place to live, they quickly set to work by gathering information on the city, taking interviews and writing articles for different local publications. They soon became popular as their articles shed light on the shady practices and corrupt politicians of the city. They were so successful that they even got the attention of prominent figures in the city. But this success came with a price. Suddenly their apartment was being watched and the cats were receiving threats from unknown individuals. It seemed that someone had taken notice of their investigation and was trying to keep them quiet. The cats decided that it was time to fight back and they began to look into the mysterious people threatening them in order to expose who they were and what they were doing. But as they soon found out, this was a riskier path than they had originally anticipated and it would take a lot of courage and determination to see it through to the end.

Marley and Carly were determined and they continued their investigation. With the help of some allies they had made, they managed to uncover the truth about the mysterious individuals threatening them. It turned out that these were the same corrupt politicians that their journalism was exposing and they were trying to keep the cats quiet. But with the truth revealed, Marley and Carly were free to publish their findings and continue to work towards making Catropolis a better place. The cats continued to write articles and investigate the wrongdoings of certain individuals in the city. Through their combined efforts, they were able to make a real difference in the city and make it a much better and safer place to live. Marley and Carly have become a symbol of justice in the city of Catropolis and are still living there to this day.

Chapter 2 - Dogropolis

In the neighboring city of Dogropolis, a group of intrepid investigators, colliely referred to as the Dog Patrol, worked diligently to fight the crime that had been plaguing the city. Led by a brave and determined leader, the patrol consisted of six very talented canines. Martha the border collie, Maya the boxer, Max the husky, Morty the bulldog, Mo the labradoodle, and Mush the dachshund. These fearless dogs worked together to uncover the dark secrets of Dogropolis. They would often face off against some of the most notorious criminals in the city, including the most notorious of them all, the crafty and cunning cat criminal, Felix. The Dog Patrol had their work cut out for them as the criminal activities of Felix included robberies, scams and frauds. The Dog Patrol worked tirelessly to try and track Felix down and bring him to justice. Many times they were just a step too late and had to watch helplessly as Felix and his gang found one way or another to escape.

Marly and Carly had heard of the Dog Patrol of Dogropolis and they wanted to help. In a daring plan, the Dog Patrol disguised themselves as cats in order to infiltrate the gang and get closer to Felix. The plan was risky and there was a serious chance of being found out, but eventually they managed to find Felix and Marly and Carly and the Dog Patrol apprehended him and his gang. The Dog Patrol were very grateful to Marley and Carly and they soon became part of the team. It was Marley and Carly’s expertise that eventually led to the ultimate success of the Dog Patrol in their efforts. They exposed the corruption, put a stop to the crime, and restored order in Dogropolis. The Dog Patrol of Dogropolis will always remember the help Marley and Carly provided and the duo will remain a symbol of justice in the city.

Chapter 3 - Ratropolis

Seussian Prose

In the night, when stars were bright, Two sneaky rats came into sight. They crept and crawled through Catropolis town, With whiskery faces and eyes of brown.

“We need some cats,” the first rat said. “The King of Rats wants them,” he pled. “Let’s take two cats back to our place, Our tree fort castle, high in space!”

The second rat looked all around, Then pointed where two cats were found. “Look there! A shop with cats inside, Let’s grab them quick and then we’ll hide!”

Clifton Cat was sweeping floors, While Ava Cat was counting stores. “Oh, Clifton dear, it’s getting late. Let’s lock up shop,” said Ava straight.

But then the door flew open wide! Two rats rushed in from the outside! “We’ve come to take you both away, To Ratropolis you’ll go today!”

The rats were quick, the rats were strong. They tied up Clifton before too long. They grabbed up Ava in a sack, And out the door, there was no turning back!

Through woods and fields the rats did race, With cats in tow to their tree place. Up, up, up the tree they climbed, To Ratropolis, all grim and slimed.

The castle walls were made of sticks, With pebbles, mud, and thorny pricks. Guards with spears stood at the gate, As Clifton and Ava met their fate.

“Welcome cats to our rat home! From here you never more shall roam! The King of Rats will see you soon. Perhaps tonight beneath the moon!”

When morning came to Catropolis bright, Marley and Carly got quite a fright. The shop was open, the door swung free, But Clifton and Ava they could not see!

“Oh no!” cried Marley with a shout. “Something bad has come about! Clifton’s gone and Ava too! What in the world are we to do?”

Carly looked down at the floor, And saw some footprints near the door. “Look here, Marley! Rats have been! Their tiny prints can sure be seen!”

“Rats?” gasped Marley with wide eyes. “From Ratropolis?” she surmised. “We must go save our friends so dear, We must be brave and show no fear!”

Carly nodded, firm and true, “I’ll come along to help save too. But Ratropolis is far away, In the deep, dark woods, they say.”

So Marley packed a little sack, With cheese and string and things to snack. Carly brought a tiny light, To help them see in dark of night.

“We’re coming, Clifton! Ava too!” Called brave young Marley. “This we’ll do! We’ll save you from the rats so mean, The bravest cats you’ve ever seen!”

Out of town the two cats went, On rescue mission, fully bent. Through fields of green and streams so blue, Our heroes marched the whole day through.

As sun began to leave the sky, They saw the trees that reached up high. “There!” said Carly with a point. “Ratropolis at this very joint!”

The tree fort castle, dark and tall, With stick and mud and pebble wall. Rat guards with spears stood watch with care, But Marley and Carly? They didn’t scare!

“We need a plan,” said Marley wise. “To get inside and cause surprise. To save our friends and bring them back, We need to launch a smart attack!”

Carly thought, then gave a grin, “I know just how we can get in! We’ll wait till night when rats all sleep, Then up the tree we’ll quietly creep!”

And so our heroes waited near, Hearts so brave, minds so clear. Ready to climb and fight and save, The bravest cats, so strong and brave!

When darkness fell and moon shone bright, The rats all snored throughout the night. “Now!” whispered Carly with a nod. “Let’s climb this tree, though it seems odd!”

Up, up, up the tree they went, On rescue mission, fully bent. Their claws dug deep in wood so rough, Though climbing high was quite tough.

At last they reached the castle wall, Where sleeping guards began to snore. “Look there!” said Marley with a point. “A window small at this joint!”

Through that window, small and tight, Our heroes squeezed with all their might. Inside the castle, dark and damp, They crept along with tiny lamp.

“Where could they be?” asked Carly low. “In which direction should we go?” Then Marley’s ears perked up so quick, “I hear a sound—it’s faint but slick!”

They followed sounds down hallways deep, Where rat guards continued to sleep. And there behind a door so tall, They heard a voice, a kitty call!

“That’s Clifton!” Marley said with glee. “And Ava too, I guarantee! But how to open such a door? It’s locked up tight, of that I’m sure.”

Carly spotted on the wall, A key that hung, not very tall. “Look here!” she whispered with delight. “The key to set things right!”

They grabbed the key and turned the lock, The door swung open—what a shock! There sat Clifton and his mom, Looking sad and quite forlorn.

“Marley! Carly!” Clifton cried, But not too loud, he kept inside. “You came to save us from this place! Oh thank you, friends, with much embrace!”

“Hush now,” Marley warned with care. “We must be quiet, do not blare! We need to leave before first light, Before the King gives us a fright!”

But as they turned to make their way, A noise came from the hall so gray. The Rat King stood there, tall and mean, The biggest rat they’d ever seen!

“What’s this?” he cried with angry roar. “Cats trying to sneak out my door? Guards! Wake up! We’ve been deceived! These cats think they can be relieved!”

“Run!” yelled Carly in a dash. Through the halls they made a smash. The four cats running, oh so fast, With rat guards waking up at last.

They raced and chased through winding halls, With rats close by and closing calls. “The window!” Marley pointed out. “Our exit path without a doubt!”

But Rat King blocked their getaway, His teeth so sharp, his eyes so gray. “You’ll never leave,” he snarled with hate. “Ratropolis will be your fate!”

Then Carly had a brilliant thought, She grabbed the cheese that they had brought. “Hey Rat King! Smell this tasty treat! The finest cheese you’ll ever eat!”

The King’s nose twitched, he couldn’t help, His love for cheese made him yelp. As he reached out with greedy paws, Marley pushed him with her claws!

Down he tumbled, with a shout, As four brave cats made their way out. Through the window, down the tree, Running fast as fast can be!

The rats all watched from up above, As cats escaped with those they love. “Come back!” cried rats in angry fits. But our heroes? They had wits!

Through woods and fields they ran all night, Until Catropolis came in sight. The morning sun began to rise, As they returned, to their surprise.

The cats of town all gathered ‘round, To hear the tale, so quite profound. Of brave young Marley, Carly too, And what good friends will do for you.

“No more shopping late at night,” Said Ava Cat with new insight. “And we’ll make sure our doors are locked,” Added Clifton, somewhat shocked.

The Rat King and his sneaky crew, Stayed in their tree the whole year through. Too scared of cats so brave and bold, The greatest heroes ever told!

And Marley, Carly? Heroes true! The bravest cats that ever grew. They showed that friendship, strong and right, Can win against the darkest night.

Standard Prose

It was a dark night in Catropolis. Most cats were sleeping in their warm beds. But two sneaky rats were wide awake. They had come from far away with a secret plan.

“We need to take some cats back to Ratropolis,” whispered the first rat. “Our King wants to meet them.”

“Let’s find some cats to take,” said the second rat. “Look! That shop still has lights on.”

Inside the shop, Clifton Cat was sweeping the floor. His mom, Ava, was counting the day’s money.

“It’s getting late, Clifton,” said Ava. “Let’s close the shop and go home.”

Just then, the door burst open! The two rats rushed inside.

“Don’t move!” shouted the biggest rat. “You’re coming with us to Ratropolis!”

Clifton tried to run, but the rats were too fast. They tied his paws with rope. Then they put Ava into a big sack.

“Help!” cried Clifton, but no one heard him.

The rats carried Clifton and Ava out of the shop. They ran through the dark streets of Catropolis. Soon they were in the deep woods.

The rats ran for a long time. Finally, they stopped at the biggest tree in the forest. They began to climb up, up, up.

At the top of the tree was Ratropolis. It was a castle made of sticks, mud, and pebbles. Rat guards with spears stood at the gates.

“Open up!” called the rats. “We have brought cats from Catropolis!”

The gates opened, and the rats carried Clifton and Ava inside. The castle was full of rats scurrying around.

“Welcome to Ratropolis,” said a rat with a fancy hat. “The King will see you tomorrow. For now, you will stay in our tower.”

Clifton and Ava were scared. They were locked in a small room at the top of a tower.

“What will happen to us?” Clifton asked his mom.

“Don’t worry,” said Ava, trying to be brave. “Someone will come to help us.”

The next morning in Catropolis, Marley and Carly went to visit their friends at the shop. But when they got there, the door was open and the shop was empty.

“That’s strange,” said Marley. “Where are Clifton and Ava?”

Carly looked around the shop. She saw tiny footprints on the floor.

“Look at these footprints,” she said. “They’re too small for cats. I think rats have been here!”

“Rats?” gasped Marley. “Do you think they took Clifton and Ava to Ratropolis?”

“I’m sure of it,” said Carly. “We have to go save them!”

Marley nodded. “You’re right. But Ratropolis is far away in the deep woods. It will be dangerous.”

“I’m not scared,” said Carly. “Clifton and Ava need our help.”

The two cats packed a small bag with food and a flashlight. Then they set off through the gates of Catropolis.

They walked all day long. They crossed green fields and little streams. As the sun began to set, they came to the edge of the dark woods.

“Look up there,” whispered Carly, pointing to a huge tree. “I can see something in the branches.”

Marley looked up. High in the tree was a castle made of sticks and mud. Rat guards walked along the walls with spears.

“That must be Ratropolis,” said Marley. “But how will we get in?”

Carly thought hard. “We need a good plan. Let’s wait until it’s dark. When the rats are sleeping, we can climb up the tree.”

“Good idea,” said Marley. “We must be very quiet and very brave.”

The two cats hid in some bushes. They watched as the sun went down and the moon came up.

When it was very dark and the moon was bright in the sky, Marley poked Carly.

“Look, the rat guards are falling asleep,” she whispered. “It’s time to climb the tree.”

Quietly, the two cats crept to the big tree. They used their sharp claws to climb up the rough bark. It was a very tall tree, but they kept climbing.

Finally, they reached the bottom of the rat castle. They could see a small window nearby.

“We can fit through that window,” said Carly. “The rats are too big to use such a small opening.”

Marley and Carly squeezed through the tiny window. Inside the castle, it was dark and smelled like old cheese. They turned on their little flashlight.

“We need to find where they’re keeping Clifton and Ava,” whispered Marley. “But we must be very quiet.”

They tiptoed through the halls of the rat castle. Sometimes they had to hide when a rat guard walked by. Most of the rats were sleeping, but a few were still awake.

Suddenly, Marley’s ears perked up. “I hear something,” she said. “It sounds like… meowing!”

They followed the sound down a long hallway. At the end was a big wooden door with a lock on it.

“Clifton and Ava must be in there,” said Carly. “But how do we open the door?”

Marley looked around. On a hook nearby hung a big iron key.

“Look!” she said. “That must be the key to the door.”

Carly stood on Marley’s shoulders to reach the key. She grabbed it and quickly put it in the lock. The door opened with a small creak.

Inside the room were Clifton and Ava! They looked tired and scared, but they were okay.

“Marley! Carly!” Clifton whispered excitedly. “You came to save us!”

“Shh,” said Marley. “We need to be very quiet. We have to sneak out before any rats see us.”

The four cats crept back down the hallway toward the little window. But just as they were about to reach it, they heard a loud voice.

“Stop right there!”

They turned around. Standing before them was the biggest rat they had ever seen. He wore a crown made of shiny metal can tops. It was the Rat King!

“No cats escape from Ratropolis!” he shouted. “Guards! Wake up! Intruders!”

“Run!” yelled Carly.

The four cats ran as fast as they could toward the window. Rat guards were waking up all around them.

“We’ll never make it!” cried Clifton.

Suddenly Carly remembered something. She reached into their pack and pulled out a piece of cheese.

“Hey, Rat King!” she called. “Look what I have!”

The Rat King stopped running. His nose twitched. “Cheese? Is that real cheese?”

“The tastiest cheese in all of Catropolis,” said Carly. “Do you want it?”

The Rat King nodded. His eyes were big and hungry.

“Then catch!” Carly threw the cheese as far as she could.

The Rat King and all his guards ran after the cheese. While they were distracted, the four cats squeezed through the window.

They climbed down the tree as fast as they could. When they reached the bottom, they ran and ran. They didn’t stop until they were far away from Ratropolis.

The cats ran all night long. When the sun began to rise, they could see Catropolis in the distance.

“We made it!” said Marley. “We rescued Clifton and Ava!”

When they reached Catropolis, all the cats in town were so happy to see them. Everyone wanted to hear the story of their brave rescue.

“You are the bravest cats in Catropolis,” said the mayor. “You saved your friends from the terrible rats!”

“We learned an important lesson,” said Ava. “Always lock your door at night.”

“And never stay open too late,” added Clifton.

As for the rats of Ratropolis, they never came back to Catropolis again. They were too afraid of the brave cats who had outsmarted their king.

Marley and Carly became heroes in Catropolis. But most importantly, they showed everyone that good friends will always be there for each other, no matter how dangerous the adventure might be.
