Steps
- Peel and cube the squash.
- Peel and slice the apples.
- Put the squash and apples into a large glass bowl.
- In a small bowl, mix brown sugar and the pumpkin pie spice.
- Pour the sugar-spice mixture over the squash and apples.
- Heat in the microwave on high for 5 minutes1.
- Stir and repeat heating in the microwave for 5 minutes at a time until squash is mushy.
Note: For 2026, try adding everything to a stock pot and boiling it and constantly stirring to reduce it instead of the microwave.

If you split it into 2 dishes, start each dish in the microwave for about 5-10 minutes until there is a bit of liquid (so it boils). Then bake it in the oven at 300º-350º while having each dish take turns in the microwave/oven every 5 minutes. ↩︎
