Drive, walk and ride around town and do the jobs. Stop at the signs, wait for
the lights, let people cross, and look before you cross. Every sign you obey goes in your Sign Book.

Steering in free drive
Car up turns the town so your car always points up the screen, so its left is your left. North up keeps the map still. The driver's seat shows the road as a driver sees it; a stop that goes wrong is still played back from above.
Road Rules needs a newer browser to draw the town.
Your progress is safe.

π You made it!
Who goes first?
Tap it.
π Sign Book
Obey a sign and it goes in your book. Tap one to watch it.
π’ Go and π Stop
Hold π’ to go. Hold π to slow down and stop. Let go of both and the car slowly rolls to a
stop. On a keyboard: β goes, β or Space stops.
β¬ οΈ Blinkers β‘οΈ
Your car keeps to its lane by itself. To turn, tap a blinker before the corner: the car turns
the way the blinker points. Turn it on early, so other drivers know. Keys: β and β.
πΆ Walking
Hold πΆ to walk. At every curb you stop. Tap π to look left, right and left again, then tap
πΆ to cross when the cars have stopped or gone by. At a light, cross only on the walking
person, never on the hand. βββ needs a look at every curb.
π² Riding
Put your helmet on first. Ride on the right with the cars, and keep the same rules a car
keeps: stop at stop signs and red lights, wait your turn. Your arm is your blinker: tap β
before you turn.
π£οΈ Main Street
Main Street has two lanes each way. To move over, turn your blinker on toward the other lane,
tap π to look over your shoulder, and the car moves over when you have signalled. The dark
patches beside your car are where the mirrors do not reach: look before you move. There is no
left turn off Main Street: go past, move to the left lane, turn round at the gap in the middle
when it is clear, and come back. That is a Michigan left.
π£οΈ The freeway
The freeway is north of town: 55 mph, and 45 at the least. Speed up on the ramp, turn your
left blinker on, tap π, and move over into a gap: the cars on the freeway go first. Keep to
the right lane, and use the left lane only to pass. To leave, turn your right blinker on,
move into the exit lane, then slow down. Miss your exit and the job ends: on a freeway you
never back up or turn round. At the end of an off-ramp, stop, then turn when it is clear. To turn
left onto an on-ramp, let the cars coming the other way go first. The road over the freeway is a
bridge.
π Night
At night, tap π‘ to turn your lights on before you go. Tap again for high beams π on an empty
road, and again to dim them when a car comes or you are behind one. Keys: H.
π ΏοΈ Parking
In the Park tab you steer yourself. Hold β¬ οΈ or β‘οΈ to turn the wheel; let go and it goes back
to straight. π’ goes and π stops. Tap D to change to R and go backwards, but only when the car
has stopped. Park inside the blue lines without touching a car. You can steer yourself in free
drive too: in Settings, set Steering in free drive to π I steer. Keep on the right side of the
road, and slow down before you turn.
πͺͺ The Driving Test
After the big trip comes the test: round town and back. Pass with no big mistakes and three
small ones at most, and you get your Road Rules licence. It is kept in your Sign Book.
π Buses and π sirens
When a school bus stops with its red lights flashing, stop 20 feet back, whichever way you
are going, and wait until the lights go off. When you hear a siren, pull over and stop until
it goes by. Driving the fire truck? Cars pull over for you, but you still slow right down at
red lights and stop signs.
π Buckle up
Every drive starts with the seat belt. The car will not go until you buckle up.
πΊοΈ Jobs
Each job sends you somewhere in town. Follow the blue line and stop at the π ΏοΈ. Do a job to
open the next one.
β Stars
β for getting there. ββ if you kept every rule. βββ if you also kept the drink π₯€ from
spilling: no hard stops, and slow round corners.
β Oops
Some mistakes stop the job: going through a red light or a stop sign, not waiting for
people, or not waiting your turn. You see what happened, then try again. Small mistakes
are shown at the end.
π«οΈ The grey shade
The shade is where your car's driver cannot see: behind houses and round corners. Cars can
come out of the shade, so go slowly where you cannot see.
π Sign Book
Every sign you obey goes in your book. Tap a sign there to watch it being obeyed.
π Sound
π at the top turns it off, and it stays off in every other game here too.
