"Fire by itself" shoots whenever a robot is in the sight. "Level out" turns the ship the right way up when you let go. Turn the detail down if flying feels slow: Full has shadows, shine, close-up surfaces and glow; Some drops the costliest of them; Low is plain. The game turns it down by itself on a slow device. The frame speed readout shows how fast this device is drawing. On foot you see from your own eyes, or from behind you; if looking round makes you feel funny, try the other view or a wider field of view.

πŸš€ Flying

On a phone or tablet: put your left thumb down anywhere on the left half and a stick appears β€” push it to fly forward, back and sideways. Put your right thumb down on the right half for the other stick, and push it to turn. To go up or down a shaft, point the nose and fly. (⬆️ ⬇️ slide buttons can be switched on in Settings.) On a computer: W A S D to fly, Space and C for up and down, the mouse or arrow keys to turn (click the mines first), Q and E to roll.

πŸŒ• Moonwalk

Pick πŸŒ• Moonwalk under the moon on the menu. Your ship lands in a hangar inside the moon and you climb out in your moon suit. Left thumb: walk, back and sideways. Right thumb: turn, and look up and down. Your blaster fires by itself at a robot in the sight. Find the crystals, open the gates and shoot the core, then run back to your ship before the countdown ends: it takes you up and out. Tinkers you find follow you, and come too if they are with you when you get back. Cracked rock hides a secret: shoot it! πŸŽ₯ switches between your eyes and a view from behind you.

✨ Secret ways out

Some moons hide a gold ring in a secret nook. It stays dark until the core is down; then go through it instead of out the usual way, and a bonus moon opens: all gold, with more Tinkers to rescue. Bonus moons are under the moons on the menu.

πŸ”˜ Machines

A πŸ”˜ switch opens a door nearby: fly or walk into it, or shoot it. πŸ”¨ Presses thump down from the roof: they never hurt, they just push you aside. On a moonwalk, ➑️ moving floors carry you along. When the core is down, the base sounds the alarm.

⛏️ Delve

The ⛏️ Delve tab plays the moonwalks from above. Tap where to walk; tap a robot to shoot it, or hold πŸ”« to shoot the nearest (Space on a computer). Popped robots drop βš™οΈ cogs: walk over them. On Pilot and Ace, if your suit pops you drop your cogs there: go back for them. Shut down the core, then walk back to your ship before the countdown ends. Robots sometimes drop gear. Each piece has one power number: β–² green means it beats what you wear, β–Ό red means it does not. Walk over it: a better piece is put on by itself (the lights on your suit show what you wear), a close one goes in your 🧰 stash, and junk is melted into πŸ”© parts. Between floors you are in the 🏘️ Town: tap where to walk, tap a building to go in, or tap its sign to open it at once. At the πŸ”§ Bench tap a piece to ⬆️ upgrade it, 🎲 re-roll one bonus, or set a πŸ’Ž gem in a socket; at the 🧰 Stash wear or melt what you kept. The Tinkers you rescue open the shops: spend your cogs there. They give πŸ“œ quests too, on the board: a picture says what to bring back and from which floor, and a quest pays gear and new πŸ‘• looks for your suit. No quest is needed to go on. The πŸ† statues on the square are the bosses you have beaten. Pick your hero under the tabs: the πŸ”« Blaster shoots from afar, the πŸ₯Š Brawler walks up and punches (and is tough), and the πŸ”§ Tinkerer has a drone that shoots for it, and sets little turrets down with πŸ”§. Popping robots and finishing floors gives your hero ⭐ levels. Each level is a point to spend at ⭐ Skills in the town, on a skill or on your suit. There each skill has three pictures, three ways it can work: tap one to pick it. Taking points back with βˆ’ or ↩️ is free, so try another way to play. A champion's piece from floor 5 on can have a ✨ power, and a boss can leave a piece of a set: wear two or three of one set for more. ⭐ Skills lists your class's powers and sets, and how often they drop. A skill gets a button next to πŸ”« (keys 1, 2 and 3 on a computer); after you use it, it shows how many seconds until it is ready again. On a Guardian's or a Core Mind's floor, the core marks a red circle where you stand: step out before it strikes. A robot that glows gold is a champion: tougher, but it drops more cogs and always a piece of gear. Each hero is the same on every rung; harder rungs pay more cogs and experience (in the rift, experience is the same on every rung). Tap a ledge to climb it: up its stairs, its lift or its jump pad. Tap cracked rock to break it, and a robot hatch to shoot it shut. A pickup your hero can't use becomes βš™οΈ cogs. Once floor 10 is done, the πŸŒ€ Rift gate in the town opens: floors without end, each deeper one tougher, with no countdown. Your time is kept, and the depth to beat is your own. Its champions have traits, shown over them: πŸ›‘οΈ a bubble takes their first hits, ⏩ quick, βœ‚οΈ they come apart into two more, πŸ§ͺ they leave fizz puddles (step out of one). After level 30 your experience gives πŸ… suit ranks: a little more each time.

⛸️ Ice

On a moonwalk some rooms have an ice floor, and an ice moon has lots. On ice you are slow to get going and slow to stop: let go early, and push the other way to stop sooner. Robots fly, so ice never slows them.

πŸͺœ Heights

On a moonwalk, some rooms have a ledge with something waiting on top. Walk up its πŸͺœ stairs, stand on its πŸ›— lift and ride up, or walk onto its 🦘 jump pad and keep going. Walk off the edge to jump down: it never hurts. πŸ“¦ Crates can be pushed: walk into one. Hide behind a crate and robot shots stop on it.

πŸ’‘ Caverns and light

Your suit has a headlamp: it lights where you look. Some rooms are dark: find the yellow πŸ’‘ light switch near the way in, walk into it or shoot it, and the lights come on. Some lamps flicker. And some moonwalks have a 🌌 cavern open to the sky: look up and see the stars.

πŸ’¨ Running

Hold Shift to run, on foot or flying (on a gamepad, click the left stick). On a phone or tablet, switch on Always run in βš™οΈ Settings; then Shift walks instead.

πŸ”₯ Shooting

On a phone or tablet your lasers fire by themselves whenever a robot is in the sight β€” just point at it. On a computer, hold the mouse button (or Ctrl). πŸš€ fires a seeker, which chases the nearest robot. ⚑ power ups make your lasers stronger. "Fire by itself" in Settings switches the automatic firing on or off.

πŸ₯€ Fizz tanks, and robots that fight

Green fizz tanks stand in some rooms. Shoot one three times and it bursts, popping the robots next to it. It never hurts you: it just pushes you back. A robot that gets hit by another robot's shot turns on that robot, so keep one between you and the others. From moon 4 a 🌩️ twin ray box: two big beams, close up. Shoot open the secret nooks for a πŸ’› Mega cell, which fills your shield to 200.

🧭 Where to go

The sign at the top always says what to do next. Balls of light show the way there, in the colour of what they lead to: a crystal's colour, red for the core, green for the way out. When the way is off the screen, a big arrow at the edge points to it. On 🐣 Cadet the lights are always on. On πŸš€ Pilot, tap 🧭 to light the way to what is next. On πŸ¦… Ace, 🧭 works once a moon. πŸ—ΊοΈ shows the map of everywhere you have been: rooms, and the tunnels between them as tubes, with a doorway where each one goes into a room.

πŸ’Ž Crystals and gates

A glowing gate needs the crystal of its colour. Fly into a crystal to pick it up, then fly at the gate and it opens.

πŸ”΄ The core

Every mine has a core at the end. Shoot it until it goes dark β€” then a countdown starts and the green exit opens. Follow the arrow and fly up the exit before the time runs out! On most moons from moon 4, ⚠️ robots warp in along the way out to stop you, and the countdown gets a little longer for each. On Pilot and Ace, if the time runs out the moon is not done: try again. Every fifth moon has a πŸ›‘οΈ Guardian: shield plates fly round its core, and the core takes no hits until you knock every plate out. Your ship flies itself the rest of the way out, and the moon blows apart behind you. ⏭ Skip is in the corner, and 🎬 on the card after plays it again.

πŸ”« Weapons

From moon 3 on, glowing weapon boxes are hidden in the rooms. Fly into one to pick it up: πŸ”± the fan laser (three bolts at once), πŸͺƒ the ricochet (bolts that bounce off a wall), πŸ”† the charge beam (hold, then let go for one big shot; it goes by itself when full) and πŸ’₯ bumper mines (dropped behind you with πŸš€). Each has ammo; a box of the same kind fills it. Tap the weapon chip at the top (or press 1-6) to switch.

πŸ‘€ Watch their eyes

A robot's eyes are dim while it sleeps and light up when it wakes. When they go bright and flicker, it is about to shoot: move!

πŸ‘Ύ New robots

From moon 4 on, new robots join in. 🐝 A Swarm is three tiny robots: one hit pops each. 🟠 A Bouncer's shots bounce off a wall once, so hide round a corner. πŸ›‘οΈ A Shieldback is armoured in front: fly round and hit its side or back. πŸ’£ A Mine-layer drops red mines in its room: don't touch them, shoot them.

πŸ—οΈ Build your own base

Pick πŸ—οΈ Custom over the moons and tap βž• New base. Tap squares to put rooms down, then join them with tunnels. Put the πŸš€ hangar in one room and the πŸ”΄ core in another, and add robots and Tinkers. Drag the board to build further out, pinch it (or use βž– βž• πŸ”) to see more, and ↩️ takes a change back. πŸ–ŒοΈ Paint lays a line of rooms joined by tunnels as you drag (⬜ Box fills a box, 🧽 Rub out takes them away), and 🧩 Pieces puts down a ring, a corridor, an arena, a tower or a maze (πŸ”„ turns it first). πŸ”— Share makes a link to send; πŸ“₯ Open a shared base on the Custom tab takes one in, and shows it to you before it is kept. Up to 400 rooms, on up to six floors: pick a floor at the top of the board, and πŸ›— Shaft joins a room to the room straight above it. Flying, a shaft is a tunnel straight up; walking, it is a lift: walk in and it takes you. Your base can be played as soon as nothing is missing; the autopilot then flies it and walks it by itself, and your stars count once it gets out. In Delve a base is one long level at your hero's own depth, and you can stop and carry on later.

πŸšͺ Robot hatches

On moons 7, 8 and 9 of every ten, round red hatches in the walls send out robots while you are near. Shoot a hatch six times (or hit it with two seekers) and it shuts for good. Each one only has a few robots to send.

πŸ”§ Menders, Hives and the Core Mind

From moon 12, πŸ”§ a Mender fixes hurt robots and rebuilds popped ones from their scrap: pop the Mender first. From moon 14, 🐝 a Hive lets out swarms: pop the Hive. On moons 10, 20, 30 and on, 🧠 the core is the Core Mind: it calls robots, and its shell opens and shuts. Shoot it while the shell is open.

πŸ€– Tinkers

Tinkers are little helper robots stuck in the mines. Fly into one to bring it aboard. Rescue them all for a ⭐. Some are hiding behind cracked rock β€” shoot it!

πŸ›‘οΈ Your shield

Robot shots take away shield. πŸ›‘οΈ orbs fill it back up. If it runs out, your ship pops and comes straight back in the last room you visited β€” with everything you were carrying. Walls never hurt.

⭐ Stars

⭐ for clearing the mine, ⭐ for rescuing every Tinker, and ⭐ for escaping in time without your ship popping. Clearing a moon opens the next one, and there is always a next one: every ten moons get a little harder. β—€ β–Ά turn the pages of moons; a cleared moon blows apart on the menu.

πŸ”Š Sound

πŸ”Š at the top turns it off, and it stays off in every other game here too.
