📋 All the clues

đŸŽ¯ The idea

Every white square is part of a word — one going across and, where they cross, one going down too. Read the clue, spell the word into the squares. The letters you get right become free letters for the words that cross them.

👆 Picking a word

Tap any square to work on the word through it. Tap the same square again to swap between the across word and the down word — the arrow in the clue bar tells you which one you are in. The whole word lights up, and the square you are typing into is the bright one.

✓ Check

Tap Check any time and the game puts a red corner on the letters that are wrong. It never tells you what the right letter is — just which ones to think about again. Check is free, and you can use it as often as you like. As soon as you retype a letter, its red corner goes away.

💡 Stuck?

The 💡 lightbulb fills in one letter of the word you are on, in the right place, for free. You get a few per puzzle — never enough to finish it for you.

🌱 Pick your size

Sprout is a small grid of short words and writes in the first letter of every one. Scout is bigger with no free letters — but on both of them, a word you spell correctly turns green and locks, so you always know where you stand. Sage has longer words, no free letters and no locking: finding your own mistake is part of it. Each button says how many words it gives you.

âš™ī¸ Or build your own

Under Settings the three things a level is made of come apart: how big the grid is (7×7 up to 17×17), how hard the words are, and how much help you get. Any mix is allowed — a big grid of easy words is a perfectly good afternoon.

⏱ī¸ The clock

The clock at the top counts up, so it can never run out and nothing bad happens if you take all afternoon. It's just there so you can see how long a puzzle took, and beat it next time. It stops when you leave the game and starts again when you come back. Don't want it? Tap it and it goes away — tap the ⏱ī¸ in its place to bring it back.

📅 Puzzle of the Day

Everybody gets the same puzzle each day. It works offline, so a car ride counts.
